" My heart is aching for my beloved Thailand and the fears and upset that are affecting my countrymen. When I represented Thailand as Miss Universe, my greatest pride and joy was knowing that I was born into a culture with honorable values engrained in us by the great King Rama IX. His Majesty dedicated his whole life in service to the Thai people. He was the father of our Thai ideals and he passed down to us great honor, respect, diplomacy and pride for our country. Even our language addresses each other as "brother" "sister" "auntie" "uncle" and so on... representing the Thai family and Buddhist consciousness we were born into.I see that our country is facing a crucial dilemma. It is good to question injustice but we must remember that it is our unconditional respect for each other and our country that bonds us as Thai citizens and has even earned us global admiration. It is in times like these that I reflect back at the root of what was instilled in me as a Thai citizen when I was a child, and what has become the most powerful tradition that I have passed down to my children; a symbol that makes us inherently Thai, the Wai. Our brain and our heart represent our two hands. In one hand we have the power of our brain which is our truth, and in the other the power of our heart which is our ability to love and respect one another. When we put our two hands together in a Wai we create the most powerful and respectful way to communicate. I tell my children that they can say anything but they must put their emotions aside and let their truth come together with respect. When we put our fists in the air it can create a battle; but when we open our hands and put our palms together we come from a place of truth and respect; this is the way to a respectful conversation and this is the way that we can make positive changes while honoring our inherent values.I pray that the citizens are protected and heard; and our beloved nation will continue to be the example of grace and honor. #honor #respect #lovethailand"
